We want so much to do in our life. Learning new courses, pursue a degree, attend professional training, watch the latest movies on Netflix, Amazon, read Stephen King’s classics, plan a tour for Hawai, landing into a different job..and the list will never end. So, what is holding you back. The following five triggers will accelerate what you want in life.
1 Akrasia: What sort of word is this? Actually we do it everyday. It is a concept which is a state of “I will do this/improve this, change my, lets say any habit. However you are not doing it ever. It is more dangerous than procrastination as in procrastination we know what we are not doing. So, getting rid of Akrasia or the concept of ” I will do it but…what? For instance, you want to improve your public speaking but you never attend any workshops, seminars or read books. So, be aware and ask yourself, ” What am I not doing but I always think of doing?
2. Goal setting: It is the most common but the most important aspect of motivation. For instance, by the end of the year you want to save $100,000. It must have 3 key “W” elements what, when and where. Goal setting is the primary and most importnat aspect of motivation. As the saying goes, without goal you are a captain without a radar. A perfect goal has 4 attributes (PICS). Positive refers to positive reinforcement such as I want to practice public speaking daily for at least 30 minutes instead I will not be afraid infront of the speakers. Secondly, it has to be immediate, such as, you want to write about your recent trip to London, start immediately with a Laptop or Mobile even a paper. Thirdly, it has to be concrete such as I will give at least 50 push-ups everyday, this is a concrete statement. Fourth and final, it has to to be specific which I already described, it has to be 3 Ws-What, When and Where. For instance, I will write about London’s Royal Castles at 9 am in the morning on my HP Laptop.
3 Promodoro Technique: It is a technique when you want to accomplish a task continiously without interruption. For example, I will read for at least 30 minutes without interruption. To do this you have to clear conflicts or any interruption in your environment. If you can complete a task it is a goal setting and as such it will increase your motivation.
4. MITs: No, it is not you are thinking. MITs are the most important tasks you can accomplish. These tasks would provide the most impact in that day, or in any interval period. Consider 3×20×5 rule which is 3 major tasks such as 1. Writing a short business product idea 2. Research competitors 3. Make at least 5 phonecalls to prospective clients. The major tasks’ duration could be 20-30 minutes.
5. Priming: Priming is consciously programming your brain to filter information. Everyday, we are exposed to thousands of objects and enormous information. However, if we can determine what I must require it is a trigger of motivation. For instance, I want to go for a trip in Greece. So, I would lookup the tickets, money exchange rate and my savings to accomplish the trip.
Motivation matters in moments. If I consider half day, there are over 40,000 seconds. It is up to you how you will leverage those finite seconds into an accomplish task. As in the “Captain Planet” refers, the “Power is Yours”.
